How ever did we manage without unsolicited advice?

Okay, I’ll admit it: I’m a curmudgeon.*

But when I open the Medium app on the ‘For You’ page, and behold a list of articles telling me to do this, and not do that, and why men should, and women shouldn’t and writers must …

Well, it makes me cross.

Who the hell are you, self-appointed giver of unsolicited advice, and what makes you think you know it all?

Now, nobody is forcing me to read any of these articles. Candidly, I mostly don’t.

Every once in a while one irks me enough to have a look, which I do with copious snorting. It’s a pressure release valve I guess, like on an old steam locomotive, so I don’t blow a gasket.

Though it’s only a matter of time.

I contemplate acerbic comments which I mostly have the good sense not to write.

No doubt I’m committing numerous egregious sins / faux pas / crimes against literature and humanity by not heeding the advice telling me where I’ve been going wrong all my life.

But I’ll live with that.

Medium is my happy place, and I want to keep it that way.
